I Guess the ‘Pain’ Nancy Mace Needs To Feel via Her Tattoos Is … the Pain She Inflicts Upon Others?

A little over a year ago, I resolutely claimed that if I had a penny for every time Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) went viral for doing something bizarre on the Internet, I’d have … quite the arsenal of pennies. And, well, it may have been the most lucrative thought I’ve ever thunk (minus a brief Bitcoin dream that I do not wish to talk about), because if I had really been able to cash it in, my pockets would be—by now—heaping!

In one of the several profiles dedicated to tackling Mace’s (R-S.C.) perennial absurdity this year alone, the congresswoman in February told Politico that her tattoos represent “the pain that I need to feel,” referring to nine tats she reportedly got between 2023 and 2024. Of course, this quote has now become monumentally important in illustrating how much Ms. Ma’am’s been really going through it, because it turns out she was actually just referring to her full-on ink sleeve, which she just debuted on her new podcast, Get Maced.

Now, to be unequivocally clear, there’s no problem with getting a tattoo sleeve, nor doing so as a sitting lawmaker—and this is, perhaps, objectively the least uncool thing Mace has ever done. But pretty much none of her new designs affirm anything she’s aligned with in the past—and instead, if anything, they appropriate from the very groups she’s repeatedly used her position to bully. If we’re really giving her credit, I guess the “pain” she needs to feel… is the pain she inflicts on others? 

One of Mace’s tattoos, for instance, reads, “Mrs Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself”: a quote pulled from Mrs Dalloway—a book that’s clearly dosed with sapphic themes, and authored by bisexual and literary icon Virginia Woolf. As such, it didn’t take long for people to deduce Woolf probably wouldn’t be thrilled to see her words inked onto an open and anti-LGBTQ+ bigot who has repeatedly tried to bully trans people—on numerous occasions.

One of Mace’s tattoos also features a vertical inscription of “JUSTICE”—which is, again, ironic coming from one of the most unprincipled lawmakers in Congress. In the last year alone, Mace targeted Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for “hate speech” Omar never even said; tried to revise the Constitution to kick naturalized citizens out of Congress; and bragged how she dedicates her screen time to watching ICE detention videos.

The icing on top, however, is a tattoo of some Christ-like or virginal figure—serving as yet another reminder that despite the administration’s dreams of turning the country into a full-blown theocracy, MAGA—and the administration along with it—is godless AF. Because, well, just ask the Pope.

All the tattoos and irony along with them appeared on Mace’s new podcast created earlier this cursed month, which already has 11 episodes featuring Mace ranting about “men in the WNBA,” “communist grocery stores” in New York, and “RADICAL ISLAM” in America. (This is seriously just the tip of the iceberg, and pulled only from the titles of her videos.) The latest episode, from Monday, is also curiously titled, “Nancy Mace BREAKS THE INTERNET with Tattoos.” Oh, congresswoman. Don’t you know? We’re already as broken as can be.
