Babe Wake Up, the President’s Threatening to ‘Bomb the Shit’ Out of Oman

As if we weren’t already overrun with Hague-worthy confessions from all the ways Trump and War Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have fantasized about wiping out Iran to hurry up and finish a war they startedillegally!—the president on Monday sounded another unhinged warning. Only this time, it’s across the Strait of Hormuz and to Oman.

Speaking to Fox News’ Trey Yingst, Trump reportedly said that if Oman were to interfere with his plans to end the war in Iran, the U.S. would “bomb the shit out of them.” Damn. Jingoism, bloodthirstiness, and unabashed immorality, all in one unilateral threat? Lindsey Graham (RIP) would be proud.

While Oman has remained relatively neutral throughout the conflict, the country’s reportedly been in trade-related talks with Iran to figure out shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the two countries—and through which about a fifth of the world’s oil flows. The only other country that borders the Strait is the U.A.E.—which, in contrast, has taken a more hawkish approach to addressing the war.

As things stand, Monday was also the end of a 60-day deadline for a finalized peace deal with Iran, a goalpost that was established when Trump signed at the Palace of Versailles a MOU (memorandum of understanding) in June, during the G7 summit. During the 60-day period, the countries were meant to focus on reopening the Strait and lifting the U.S. blockade—but there’s been no sign of any progress, with the two instead repeatedly blaming each other on attacks and refusing to compromise anything.

Given it’s been more than 170 days since the war started, the administration’s also exhibited multiple signs that it’s burning concerningly low into its stockpile of munitions—making the threats to Oman not just evil and stupid, but downright impossible. Earlier this month, Hegseth reportedly came under fire with Trump for “extreme munitions shortages,” per two sources that spoke to the Washington Post. (That is, until per White House Propaganda Press Secretary denounced the reports as “B.S.,” tweeting, “the President loves the Secretary.”) In July as well, Hegseth appeared before a Senate committee to ask for emergency supplemental funding, aka nearly double what the war had already by that point cost. Without them, he warned, the U.S. would reach “critical shortfalls.” (The funding was not approved.)

Speaking to Yingst, however, Trump says he believes the U.S.’ blockade of ports in Iran is also doing more damage than Iran is letting on. “They’re good poker players, but they’re dying,” he reportedly said.

Still, there’s been little to no signs of compromise around nuclear talks, with the 60-day deadline looking less likely with each hour. Taking to Truth Social early Monday morning, Trump posted, “The number one Goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon.”

Of course, the Iran-must-not-have-nuclear-weapons take is just one of several the administration keeps repeating for why the war even begun in the first place—some of which have been worse than others, like State Secretary Marco Rubio in March telling Americans to dream of a country that spends on its people rather than weapons. And, well, that harebrained talk is second only to the several times Trump (and Hegseth) have openly dreamt of attacking more and more countries.
