Dakota Johnson and Role Model Reached the Duet Stage of Romance

Well, it’s about time Dakota Johnson brought her bone-dry but fabulous that’s not true, Ellen voice to the realm of music.

If you haven’t heard, Johnson is dating Tucker Pillsbury, the singer better known as Role Model. In December, she became the proverbial “Sally” of Role Model’s dreams after TMZ published photos of the two on a dinner date. Since then, they’ve managed to evade the paparazzi flash (except for one public smooch caught in April), and I guess now we know what they’ve been doing together this whole time…making sweet, sweet music.

During a performance in Chicago on Thursday, Role Model debuted the track “Love I You” from his upcoming album, which features a spoken-word interlude in which Mr. Model converses with a woman whose voice sounds strikingly similar to that of the woman who once claimed she loved limes. The duet goes as follows:

Role Model: “Hey, I think you’re perfect.”
Dakota Johnson (allegedly): “You say that to everyone.”
Role Model: “‘Kay, well, is it working?”
Dakota Johnson: “Yeah, but don’t tell anyone.”
Role Model: “You seem uncertain.”
Dakota Johnson: “Well, you’re just having fun.”
Role Model: “Alright then, honey.”
Dakota Johnson: “What is it this time?”
Role Model: “See, I got money.”
Dakota Johnson: “Oh, you think you’re big time?”
Role Model: “Nah, just being funny.”
Dakota Johnson: “Oh, you’re Mr. Big night?” [Not sure if that’s the exact line, but that’s what the TikToks say.]
Role Model: “Oh fuck, you don’t know me!”

Her voice might not fit in the world of Jane Austen, but sure, it works for Role Model—a man whose music I don’t listen to but have heard several times against my will. I wouldn’t necessarily be mad if Madame Web made a small career pivot. In fact, let me be the first to say I would listen the fuck out of a Dakota Johnson folk-pop album.

But this duet may also prove that her romance with Pillsbury is more than a rebound. Last year, Johnson ended her engagement to Chris Martin after eight years together. Even though they’d previously broken up and gotten back together, a source told People that it “feels final this time.” Pillsbury also dated Emma Chamberlain for three years, but they broke up in 2023. In April, a source also told the outlet that Johnson and Pillsbury were “definitely more than a fling, or just a flirt,” and while she’s yet to be chosen as “Sally” at a Role Model show, she did voice “Madeline” for Lily Allen’s SNL performance…so, close enough.
