Thinking About Kaia Gerber’s Interesting Exorcism

During Gerber’s press run for Ryan Murphy’s The Shards (based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name), we learned several interesting things about the model-actress-nepo-baby multi-hyphenate. First, she authors her own “not human” fan fiction but can’t confirm nor deny whether it’s about an animated Disney character, nor reveal her secret Wattpad handle. Second, she judges other nepo babies for not having talent (us, too). And third, she was possessed as a child. It all makes sense now.

During an appearance on the Mitch Churi Chat Show podcast, Gerber spoke about her stint on season 10 of American Horror Story, including that her mother, model Cindy Crawford, gave her holy water to bring to the set because, quote, “I was told I was possessed as a child.”

“I was haunted my whole life,” she said. “I do feel as though I attract beings from another dimension in a very casual and chill way.” You know what? I believe her.

“Do you know how they did the exorcism? They played a didgeridoo all over me. That’s how they did the exorcism,” Gerber added. Something tells me she should be telling this to a therapist and not to reporters, because if I experienced a group of strangers playing didgeridoos “all over me” as a young girl, I might be scarred for life—and not in a “very casual or chill way.”

After the reporter expressed disbelief, Kaia reiterated that she was not kidding around: “That actually did happen. I’ve never talked about it, but that actually did happen.”

Give a round of applause to Gerber and her publicist for keeping things interesting, because she can’t last an entire press tour milking the not-so-fun fact that her mom and Homer Gere’s dad once had a problematic age-gap relationship, and now they’re both in a Ryan Murphy show. (Crawford and Richard Gere married when she was 25 and he was 42. They began dating when she was 21. A little creepy, so I would understand why Gerber does not want to talk about it.) Didgeridoo exorcism and animal fan fiction are somehow less problematic.
