So Many Men Belong on Jezebel’s WNBA Wall of Shame. Here Are the Lowest of the Lowlights

The history of men being horrible at WNBA games spans just a fraction of the history of misogynists being the worst, so it should be no surprise that the juxtaposition has yielded the literal worst of both worlds.

So Many Men Belong on Jezebel’s WNBA Wall of Shame. Here Are the Lowest of the Lowlights

For nearly all of August, we’ve been barreling through some of the stupidest realities imaginable. And while I’m not quite sure which is the worst, up there is certainly the anti-trans culture war embroiling the WNBA—and the harebrained horde of idiots waging it.

Now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know things kicked off when Indiana Fevers’ Sophie Cunningham opened a Pandora’s Box of anti-trans hatemongering earlier this month: Speaking to ESPN, she said she doesn’t believe trans women—whom she inaccurately referred to as “biological men”—should participate in women’s sports. Curiously, she prefaced all this with saying she came at it with “love.” (Friendly reminder that there are zero trans people in the WNBA.)

Flash forward, a bunch of men (who were totally, definitely, absolutely watching WNBA before any of this happened!) have wasted no time throwing their weight behind increasingly concerning messaging, and now, we’re getting to the point where they’re the ones harassing players with their behavior. Who could have seen this coming except… everyone??

seems like the real threat to the wnba players right now is not trans women but cis men

The history of men being horrible at WNBA games spans just a fraction of the history of misogynists being the worst, though—so it should be no surprise that the juxtaposition has yielded the literal worst of both worlds. So. Here’s Jezebel’s WNBA Wall of Shame, aka the assholes of the now—and past—who’ve actively sought to ruin the WNBA experience.

The NBA’s Former Players Who Are Clinging to Relevance

Following Cunningham’s comments and the ensuing chaos, it didn’t take long for Royce White—who never once scored for the NBA—and Enes Kanter Freedom—who’s not played since 2022—to make themselves the league’s posterboys of anti-trans hate.

A few weeks ago, the two publicly announced they’d identify as women to qualify for the WNBA draft—and have been desperately trying to ragebait since, while the league has largely ignored them. Most recently, over the weekend, Freedom—who’s played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, and Boston Celtics—appeared at an Indiana Fever v Chicago Sky game wearing a black shirt that said “WOMAN noun. adult human female.” Before long, Chicago’s Natasha Cloud appeared to confront him, prompting security to get him and escort him out.

And I… don’t think he proved the point he thought he did.

The Crypto Bro Freaks Throwing Dildos at Players

On Friday, the Sky vs Golden State Valkyries game in California was disrupted when a green dildo hit the court—the first time it’s happened this season, after it repeatedly happened last year.

If you recall, the last WNBA season was plagued by a spate of pricks tossing dildos onto the court during games, with Polymarket Sports at one point accepting bets for “dildo dailies”—or the likelihood one would be thrown during a game. Speaking to USA Today Sports then, a bunch of troglodytes took responsibility for the behavior, saying it was to bring attention to their “meme coin,” $DILDO. Yes, I repeat: We’re in one of the stupidest realities imaginable.

On Wednesday, the account associated with (sigh) $DILDO tweeted a letter to the WNBA saying, “It has come to our attention that the WNBA has no detailed public policy on what a woman is” and warning that they’d begin tossing the toys again starting that week. There truly are not enough derogatory adjectives in the world to describe these useless sacks of men.

So, there you have it. Men are back to throwing dildos at the athletes, men are trolling trans women’s life experiences, and men are intimidating female players during WNBA games—so, again, remind me who the problem is?
