Nicole Kidman Dropped Her Ibiza Rave Routine

Welcome back to Keeping Up With Nicole Kidman’s Euro Summer, a segment where I stalk the legendary actress all over the Mediterranean because I am unfortunately stuck here.

Last we saw Nicole, she was in a flirty silk number with a mystery finance man in Portofino, prompting a slew of think pieces pondering the “private equity boyfriend” renaissance, because she’s that much of a trendsetter. Now Kidman is gracing the September cover of British Vogue, just under a year after her October Vogue cover story, which hit newsstands just days after the news broke that she and Keith Urban were headed for divorce after 19 years of marriage. (Because if there’s one thing Nicole’s going to do, it’s grace the cover of a magazine. And win the divorce.) So what has Nicole’s first summer sans-soul-patch-man looked like? In her words, a “Euro summer”—London, Paris, Portofino, and raving in Ibiza.

“Dinner at 10.30 pm, club at 1 am,” she told the outlet, of her rave routine. “I’ll put on glasses. Sometimes I’ll wear a wig to hide, a little dark wig, and then I can just dance. As long as I’m surrounded by people—like, I take people with me—then I’m fine. I need it.” Oh, to be raving at a nightclub in Ibiza with a wig-clad Nicole Kidman…If she’s not out, then she’s playing Scrabble, she says.

“I’m stealth,” she said, “I’m good at slipping in and slipping out of everywhere.” While in Portofino, she also “inexplicably” found herself onstage with a band, playing the tambourine. You know, as one does. So it seems like she is doing just fine, post-divorce. Fantastic, even.

She didn’t mention the mystery finance man or Urban in the interview, but spoke a little about her new post-divorce era of life:

“I didn’t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now. You make all these plans, and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s… not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now.” She pauses, takes a sip of her coffee. “Strange.”

Strange. Why does everything she says always sound so wise? She is truly one of the Anthropocene’s greatest thinkers. Sorry, it’s not up for debate. Here’s hoping Kidman has a lifetime more of divorced-and-thriving Euro summers.
