Kristen Stewart’s Wife Thought She Was a ‘Deadbeat’

Looks like Kristen Stewart found herself an equally esoteric, edgy, Kristen Stewart-esque partner in her wife, director Dylan Meyer, and their modern meet-cute seems to confirm it.
Stewart—who recently went on the record to say she “doesn’t give a fuck about Team Edward or Team Jacob,” so stop asking—is currently starring in Meyer’s new stoner comedy The Wrong Girls. The pair got married last year, but originally met in 2013 on the set of American Ultra (Yet another stoner comedy). In an exclusive for People, Meyer opened up about the interesting first impression Stewart left on her at the time:
“I was like, ‘I can’t believe anyone ever let this person be a teen idol,” Meyer said. “‘She’s such a deadbeat like me.’” BRB—going to embroider she’s such a deadbeat like me on a tote bag really quick.
We have to remember this was a Kristen Stewart fresh off Breaking Dawn Part 2, and Meyer’s initial assessment was that she had been “miscast” in the world of YA book-adaptation leading ladies. It may read like an insult at first, but it’s a compliment. (Because who wants to look like they belong in Twilight?) Don’t get me wrong, I still hold that Twilight deserves its place in the cinema Hall of Fame, but I’m glad Stewart found a different avenue for her art in the indie/arthouse world.
“At the time, we just thought each other were really rad.” After “six or seven years went by, then we were falling in love,” Meyer said.
Meyer added that she and Stewart share “everything we were working on because we’re both art brain freaks.” Together they founded Nevermind Pictures, a production company that is now trying to “champion first-time female directors or women who may be on their second film,” Meyer told the outlet. “So we’re trying to be the change we want to see in the world and to see opportunities in certain things that haven’t been allowed to exist. And those are the things that are fresh, and I believe will save our business.” Beautiful. May we all find our deadbeat equal.
In other news, Stewart made a press appearance on Brittany Broski’s Royal Court podcast and said, and I quote, “I caught a chunk of Twilight the other day, and that shit’s really good.” Has she ever been wrong in her life? Still no.
