Gracie Abrams, Clearly God’s Favorite, Says Relationship with Paul Mescal Is ‘the Greatest Gift, Period’

Gracie Abrams is talking about what an amazing and beautiful and loving relationship she has with Paul Mescal. That’s it. She’s blocked.

Kidding aside, I nearly spit out my coffee this morning when I read the People headline: “Gracie Abrams Shares How Relationship with Paul Mescal Has Had the ‘Most Amazing Effect’ on Her Music.” (Light shade intended). The piece was in reference to her Rolling Stone profile, published Tuesday, in which she discusses her new album, Daughter From Hell, and several more tidbits about her nearly two-year relationship with Mescal, including the quote-unquote “most amazing effect” this has had on her music.

In the interview, she discusses her shock at her fans’ reactions to her recent Vogue feature, in which she said she “was worried feeling secure and stable was threatening my drive to write music.”

“I was like, ‘Oh, shit, how am I going to approach this?’ Or, you know, ‘How’s it going to impact the quantity of songs I write?’ And it’s had the most amazing effect on my writing,” she told Rolling Stone, adding that she is now writing from a place “filled with security and joy and love and safety.”

“It has given me the most amount of space to reflect on everything in my life. It has held a mirror to me in ways that I didn’t know a relationship with another person of any kind could.” There’s more! She also added, “It has given me all the perspective that I could have ever hoped for, on previous relationships, on my relationship with my family, on my friendships. It is the greatest gift, period.” But there’s still (!) more.

Not only are Abrams and Mescal happily in love, but they are also a music duo: “We’re a very musical household, and so there’s always something brewing,” she said. “I feel lucky to be generally inspired by him as a person and by his brain. It’s the easiest thing to make stuff together.” Mescal is even credited as a co-writer on her track “Imaginary Friend.” But if you recall/If you were clinically depressed circa 2022, Mescal also collaborated with his ex Phoebe Bridgers on her cover of “So Much Wine” and starred in her music video for “Savior Complex.” So I think I’ve seen this film before…And in completely unrelated news, Rolling Stone also just published their review of Bridgers’ new album, Lost Weekend, and there may or may not be some more Abrams shade. But we will just have to wait and see…

Anyway, Gracie, I took a ~Look at Your Life~, as you asked, and I still decided that it’s perfect.
