Comment of the Week: ‘Has There Ever Been a More ”Football Wife” Name?’
One WAG, to rule them all.
Not So Deep Thoughts Comment of the Week
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, it’s hard to imagine a time before the Beckham feud endured… as civil blood [is still making] civil hands unclean.
But mind you! Such a time did once exist. And before there was Shakespeare-inducing, ~cankered~ hate, Victoria Beckham was the exemplar WAG of all WAGs, and as recognizable as Posh Spice as she was David Beckham’s—then a rising star at Manchester United—girlfriend.
It’s not like Beckham’s unchallenged title could stand the test of all time, though—and it appears our poster-child “G”-turned-“W” is now but unseated by a new chosen one. Though I didn’t realize so until our newest Comment of the Week winner, @Bill Door, pointed it out.
Story aside, has there ever been a more “football wife” name than Madison Beer?
The “story” in question, of course, is how “The NFL Is No Longer Hiding the Weaponization of the ‘WAGs’”—focusing on the NFL’s latest digital marketing campaign to win young women’s viewerships. Beer—who’s engaged to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert—was one of the first people to be featured in the “coordinated content rollout,” and apparently also destined to soon become a WAG to rule all WAGs. If not for her pre-WAG positioning as a singer, but for her name. Cheers to that.
